Win By Staying In Your Lane
If I’m being honest, there are days when I feel like superwoman and other days when I sit and reevaluate all of my life decisions. Am I on the right path? Is this idea going to work? Am I fit for the job? Should I have handled that situation differently?
I recently had a day like this when everything felt uncertain. Self-doubt was creeping in. It’s amazing how some people see you as strong, but at times you feel so weak. As work stress became overwhelming, my confidence and self-assurance began to dwindle. But right as I was in the middle of my little private pity party, I remembered a conversation I’d had with my daughter a few weeks prior.
She told me that she and her supervisor were catching up on life after the weekend as they always did. Her supervisor’s son is on the swim team and had a competition over the weekend. Although he’s an amazing swimmer, he did not place in the meet. As he rode home with his mom, he felt defeated, and as moms do, she gave him an honest pep talk. This is what stuck out to me. She said, “You could’ve won, but you were too busy looking at others. You were swimming faster than the rest, but looking into other lanes slowed you down. “
Wow. The life lessons we learn from sports. I immediately remembered that I needed to focus on my lane. Ladies, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. No one can do what you were created to do. But don’t lose focus by veering into someone else’s lane. It’s easy to get caught up in the comparison game. But there will never be another you. Keep your head up. You are a superwoman.
