Create Your Life
Lawdy Lawdy, She’s Fawty! Ladies, I brought my 40th in with a bang. It was truly magical. When I was 38, I revisited a bucket list that I’d created after my divorce when I was only 24 and started looking at things I’d accomplished- some small things like painting my room or getting a dog, and other big things like becoming a Physical Therapist or buying a home. Then I started looking at things that I had put off due to timing or finances. One was a trip to Paris and the other was the Olympics…..well you know where this story is going. I realized that I was approaching midlife or let’s be honest-in it; wasting time was no longer an option. Let’s face it, I’m not going to be here forever- and with that mindset, I began to plan my trip. By August 2024, I was enjoying 2 amazing weeks at the Paris Olympics.
The crazy thing is that with age, we assume we will slow down. Or that things will only get worse. But for the first time in a long time, I was inspired to create the life that I wanted rather than be content with the one I stumbled into. The amazing thing about life is that when we are at rock bottom, we are fearless because we have nothing to lose. But when we get somewhere in between wealthy and broke- we begin to play it safe. I didn’t want to play it safe anymore. Watching athletes who had put their all into a passion without certainty that they’d succeed- display the fruits of their labor in front of the world inspired me to just start going for it.
So I decided- at 40, I’m going to be the healthiest, I’ve ever been. I’m going to embrace the changes that occur with my body and work with it instead of against it. At 40, I’m going to turn my love for running into an experience. I began trail running and decided to try different local trails monthly. The runs were so amazing that I scheduled my first trip to Yellowstone for a 5k later that year. At 40, I began to be more diligent with my supplement protocol- because now is not the time to be deficient in micronutrients that support hormone, brain, and gut health. At 40, I decided to give up alcohol because I no longer had time for delayed thinking, stomach bloat, and voluntary hormone imbalance. And, most importantly at 40- I became more structured in my strength training routine because I want to mold the body that I want vs letting it decide for me.
And guess what- At 40, I’ve run my fastest 5k, I’ve spent more time in nature, and I’m in the best shape of my life. So if you think aging is a ticket to less satisfaction, weight gain, and brain fog- think again. This is the time to create the life you want- you’ve lived, you’ve learned, and now it’s time to draw from your experiences and build the life you want. Go ahead, be fearless, and create the life of your dreams.
